Welcome to
the 2nd GBA Smart Tourism Forum

It is our great pleasure to extend a warm invitation to you to participate in the 2nd Smart Tourism in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Forum. Co-organised by the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre together with STR, the 2nd forum is supported by the School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University and Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, and sponsored by the University Grants Committee. Taking the theme “Connectivity and Sustainability for Better Travel”, the forum will be held both online and offline in Hong Kong at the SHTM on 17 December 2021.

In succession to the first Smart Tourism in the GBA Forum, the 2nd forum aims to share and deepen the insights for developing the GBA into a smart tourism destination and managing smart tourism experience. With the rapid advancement and wide applications of new technologies in the tourism industry, focus has now been placed on travellers’ smart tourism experience which is becoming increasingly important. The 2nd forum will discuss how the integration of technology and travel in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will increase travellers’ accessibility to transboundary destinations, facilitate their responsive processes, and enrich travel experiences with ubiquitous information and service environment.

The GBA, with remarkable achievements in technology advancements and tourism developments, possesses excellent foundations and potentials to develop into an international smart tourism destination and a world-class smart city cluster. Offering an opportunity for transboundary authorities, businesses, and scholars to develop and share their ideas, deepen the connection among cross-border partners, the 2nd forum will provide an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers to discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in smart tourism experience development. We encourage stakeholders across borders to actively exchange knowledge and sustainably co-create value for the region.

We look forward to welcoming you to the forum both in Hong Kong and online!
